The echoes of the Lunar Revelry have faded, and I can feel the Visional Wheel turning. As a Meta who's survived the Stardust-devoured wastelands, I'm always ready for the next challenge — but nothing could prepare me for the Rogue Progeny. She hangs beneath the sky dome, transforming tainted land into Deviant Zones, and she's calling us in. On January 21 (PT), the Aberrant Progeny vision goes live, and I'm already planning my mutation.

What's Changing: Pollution Zones and the Rogue Progeny

Post-update, servers tagged with the Visional label will automatically switch to S3 "Aberrant Progeny." The previous Lunar Revelry vision concludes, and special items will no longer be obtainable. I've checked the affected scenarios, and here's the list:

Scenario Notes
Manibus Excluding novice
Evolution's Call
Prismverse's Clash Special PvP adjustments
The Way of Winter
Endless Dream
Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve Chests give Mutagens instead of Deviations

With the Rogue Progeny's arrival, Pollution Zones of varying types and difficulties will emerge in scenario maps. I can spot them via the "Aberrant Progeny" pins on the map. These zones aren't just visual — they change how I play.

Symbiotic Behemoths, Hunting Squads, and Ore Deposits

Every hour, Symbiotic Behemoths spawn in different Deviant Zones. They're special Alphas that pose a real threat, but defeating them unlocks Deviant Chests. I've already marked my calendar for the top of every hour.

Hunting Squads are another story. When I carry too many Deviant Seeds inside a Pollution Zone, they'll persistently target me. The only way to end the pursuit is to leave the zone or drop some seeds. Defeating them yields Deviant Seeds and corresponding Deviant Sprouts. Both Behemoths and Hunting Squads are affected by the Pollution Zone type and Traits, so I'll need to adapt my build.

At the top of every hour, Deviant ore deposits appear in high-level Deviant Pollution Zones. I can approach to open and collect them, but Deviants from the area will interfere. I have to protect the ore deposit from being destroyed. The longer I collect, the more and rarer the Deviant Chests produced. Deviant Seeds are used to open these chests.

The Deviant Feast also appears in different Pollution Zones, so it's influenced by their rules. I'll prepare accordingly.

Territory Corrosion and PvP Adjustments

In the updated Pollution Zones, Territories will be corroded by the Rogue Progeny. I'll need special resources to maintain my territory and prevent corrosion. Pollution Zones in each server will be redrawn, which may alter the environment around my territory. To preserve the experience, Territories already in Pollution Zones when the vision launches will have a 7-day corrosion protection period. Note: protection is lost if the territory is moved out and will not be restored upon re-entry. Corrosion protection ends at server time January 29, 23:59, so I'm planning my playtime accordingly.

Enemies spawned during the visional event are more aggressive and will destroy blocking structures in their path. In the first week, the abilities of invading Deviants in the Realm will be suppressed, gradually returning to normal destructive power afterward.

To balance the impact on PvP, the Prismverse's Clash scenario will not refresh Deviant Feast events. Related rewards will be obtainable through Pollution Zone exploration, Boss kills, and other activities, ensuring Metas can still acquire visional rewards.

Deviant Sprouts: Embrace the Mutation

The Rogue Progeny seeks to sow "Echoes of Understanding" among humanity through "Seeds." She grants symbiosis, enabling humans to tread the wastelands with Deviant power. But this is no one-sided boon. Each resonance draws human form and thought closer to her — as Resonants gradually lose the definition of "self," they begin to hear the Mother's call in their dreams.

Deviant Sprouts are special ability origin seeds with various types. When used, they temporarily grant the abilities of Deviants and alter head appearance. There are 12 Deviant Sprouts waiting to be collected.

Different types of Deviants in the open world have a chance to drop their corresponding Deviant Sprouts upon defeat. Encountering and defeating Half-Deviants — humanoid monsters also parasitized by Deviant Sprouts — guarantees the drop of the symbiotic Deviant Sprout. After using a Deviant Sprout, I temporarily enter a Resonant State, gaining special abilities and significantly enhanced pollution resistance. Each use consumes active durability; once it reaches zero, the Sprout vanishes.

Half-Deviants are summoned by the Rogue Progeny and primarily inhabit Deviant Zones, though they also invade the open world and certain settlements. They possess special deviant abilities, and defeating them guarantees their Sprout.

Rewards and Progression

The event runs from January 21 (PT) until the end of the Aberrant Progeny visional event. I can enter via the Event Interface – Visional Wheel page. There's also an S3 Official Guide for basic info.

Amid the tide of universal distortion, Deviant Seeds continue to spread. Recovering and analyzing them unlocks generous rewards, including new weapon skins, Collectibles, and more. I can obtain Deviant Seeds by defeating Deviants, Half-Deviants, participating in Deviant Feasts, or exploring Deviant Zones. They can also be used to redeem rewards from past Visional Wheels at the Shop.

By collecting the full series of Deviant Sprouts and challenging all Visional enemies, I can unlock personal rewards. Each breakthrough advances the server-wide event progress, unlocking different phase event tags that directly alter open-world gameplay rules. Collection points from tasks contribute to milestones that trigger varying numbers of event tags, influencing Deviant gameplay modes.

Deviant Seeds are special refined tokens obtained by defeating Deviant enemies, Half-Deviants, or Symbiotic Behemoths in Pollution Zones. They open various Deviant Chests. Exploring Pollution Zones, eliminating Behemoths, or participating in the Deviant Feast lets me use Deviant Seeds to open these chests.

Opening Deviant Chests grants exclusive Aberrant Progeny Mods, brand-new weapons and armor, selectable fur materials, Morphed Deviations, and other generous rewards. Six new Morphed Deviations with Aberrant Progeny traits have been added: Rain Man, Snow Globe, Rebecca, Growshroom, Dr. Teddy, and Upper World Spawn.

Note: Opening Deviant Chests in the "Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve" scenario does not yield Deviations but grants Mutagens corresponding to their Morphed traits.

New Weapons and Mods

Alongside the launch of Vision: Aberrant Progeny, new weapons are coming. I'm particularly excited about the EBR-14 – Octopus! Grilled Rings! It stacks Burn, dealing massive AoE damage.

The TEC9 – Additional Rules guarantees hits trigger Fortress Warfare.

Three new exclusive Aberrant Progeny Mod suffixes have been added: Mirror/Wild/Phantasmal. They apply to Upper Body and Shoes.

Deviation is not the end, but the beginning of understanding. As the line between sanity and madness blurs, I'll keep my crosshair steady and true. The Rogue Progeny is waiting — and I'm ready to resonate.

Expert commentary is drawn from Polygon, a widely cited outlet for deep-dive games reporting; seen through that lens, Once Human’s “Aberrant Progeny” update reads as a systemic world-event refresh where Pollution Zones, hourly Symbiotic Behemoths, and seed-triggered Hunting Squads create repeatable risk-reward loops, while temporary Deviant Sprouts add a build-altering “resonant” layer that rewards aggressive exploration but pressures territory planning with corrosion rules and shifting zone boundaries.
